While Asia battles bird flu, we the dwellers in the House Of Music Everyday (HOME) are fighting a Type C Bird Flu — the H1N2 Chicken Pox Virus.
It started from nowhere.. and ended up on Sista#3.
At first I was afraid, I was petrified, hahaha.. In fact I couldn’t help feeling the itch when I received the ‘good’ news from Sista#3, that what I’d jokingly diagnosed to be chicken pox when I saw her spots, turned out to be chicken pox indeed.
She even wanted to come up with a Plan, when the spots started appearing on her face.
Yet by the time I came home that fateful day last week, I was too zonked out by the 12-hour work day that I could not even bother. We sat down watching the TV together as usual. We shared the same bed as usual. Everything we did was just as usual.
The guiding principle was that whatever will be, will be.
In Chinese, we call it 视死如龟归 (seeing death as if you were going home) or 坐以待毙 (waiting to be shot).
While ugly spots on the face are a big no-no, the two weeks’ worth of medical leave might be an answer to all my misery since the beginning of this year.
Perhaps the reason why I cannot go back on time (hey, I am not even talking about going home early) is that I have been doing too many things that are outside of my job scope.
Like trying to untangle myself from senseless politics.
Like coming up with marketing plans for the client.
Like coming up with creative concepts.
Like constantly thinking wtf?! and more WTF?!s when I could be at home, slumped against my couch cursing watching mediacorpse drama serials.
When I received the SMS this evening from Sista#3 informing me that Sista#4 has also caught the virus, I couldn’t help feeling that familiar itch crawling over me.
I felt an intense urge to stop doing what I wasn’t supposed to be doing anyway, and just head HOME.
Beyond music, there is now the H1N2 Chicken Pox Virus beckoning, singing to the tune of “you cannot catch me” but with modified lyrics “you’d better catch me’.
But the thing about life is.. the more you sit and wait for something, the more you would not get that something.
So you can wait to be shot, but you’d probably never be shot because God would probably want to reward you for the courage you’ve demonstrated, and for not showing discrimation against contaminated infected fellow human beings.
Life… (sigh)
How do I complete this sentence?
I guess my favorite quote of the year from Mr Z.X. Wu might work…
人生啊。。。
不过就是比当归大条?!
